Heart conditions or problems of the heart are known as cardiovascular diseases. Some of the cardiovascular diseases include Coronary artery disease, Cardiac arrest.
CAUSES:
- Hypertension
- Excessive cholesterol circulating in the blood
- Smoking
- Diabetes
- Obesity
- Family history
FOODS TO BE LIMITED:

- full-fat dairy products
- coconut oiL
- High cholesterol foods:
- Eggs,
- whole milk,
- organ meats and
- other high cholesterol foods.
-Processed foods, trans fatty acids like margarine are to be limited
FOODS TO BE AVOIDED :
- Salty foods(incase of hypertension)
- Tobacco use in any form
- Excessive alcohol
FOODS TO BE INCLUDED:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Foods rich in vitamin C
- Beta carotene and other antioxidants.
- Fish
- Soy protein
- Apples, oat bran and other soluble fiber foods.
- Whole grain breads and cereals.
- Nuts and seeds.
- Folate: Green leafy vegetables, orange juice, lentils, asparagus
PREVENTION :
- Smart eating should be instilled from childhood.
- Encouraging low -fat diet and enjoying natural flavor if foods rather than adding excessive salt.
- Avoiding unnecessary stress which may lead to hypertension.
- Smoking and tobacco use should be avoided.
SYMPTOMS:
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain or chest tightness
- Pain in left hand
- Excessive sweating
- Sometimes no symptoms.
